An exciting new venture, Winchester Cocoa Company was born from its founder Chris’s desire to share his enthusiasm for fine chocolate, amazing British produce and ethical, sustainable food production. He wanted his chocolates to become known for their imaginative take on classic flavour combinations and to be positioned as a premium chocolate brand.
We were tasked with creating a brand that would emphasise the fresh, handmade nature of the chocolates, alluding to their imaginative flavours while reinforcing the locality and high quality of the chocolate and ingredients used. The brand needed to resonate with people who enjoy food and like to purchase locally made, premium quality products.
Having made the leap from running his own digital agency to becoming a chocolatier, this project was more than just business to Chris. It was his passion. We had to get it right.
Our task was to create a contemporary, timeless identity with the brand presence to match the company’s potential as a leading purveyor of handmade chocolates, while still giving a very definite nod to its local roots.
So we set about crafting an identity around Winchester’s ‘W’, to position the company as a premium chocolate brand, while harking back to the locality of its origins and many of its ingredients. This, paired with the brand proposition ‘delightfully daring’ to sum up its subtly adventurous approach to flavours, formed the basis of the new identity. It was subsequently rolled out across the entire range of touchpoints for launch, including the product packaging, menus and website.
The business has got off to a flying start, with Winchester Coca Company currently a British finalist in four categories of the International Chocolate Awards…winners to be announced shortly.
